Expression of interest for European inland ports to participate in the pilots of the Green Inland Ports project
The Green Inland Ports project launches an expression of interest and a warm invitation for European inland ports to engage with us in the pilot phase of this project. Green Inland Ports, commissioned by the European Commission, aims to enable sustainable management and development of inland ports. The objective is the development of a set of Sustainable Management System tools that will help inland ports to achieve their environmental goals. As an inland port participating in the pilot phase, you will cooperate closely with our team to apply these tools, based on your specific needs.
Your valuable feedback and best practices will play a pivotal role in shaping the outcomes of the Green Inland Ports project and will contribute to the future European policy agenda for the greening of inland ports.
This project spans from November 2022 to November 2025, with the pilot phase commencing in January 2025, lasting for 8 months. You will be engaged in first discussions to shape the pilot starting from the second half of 2024. It’s important to note that there will be no reimbursement for the pilot ports. However, there are two compelling reasons for you to consider joining this project in the pilot phase:
Promoting environmental disclosure
- Beyond financial profit, a broader focus on people and the environment is required for long-term resilience and prosperity. Investors and regulatory bodies now require the disclosure of non-financial performance, including environmental sustainability. The information can also play an important role in the allocation of grants by the European Commission, for example through CEF, or in the provision of financing by development banks, such as the EIB. Our project helps you to better understand your environmental impact as an inland port. It also provides you with the tools you need to monitor and improve your environmental performance.
Your input, our progress
- Our project supports the European Commission in its future policy agenda for inland ports. Your participation in our pilot phase has therefore importance in shaping the future policy agenda for European inland ports. Your insights will directly impact the direction of potential legislative developments, giving your inland port an advantage in adapting to future changes.
We invite you to seize this opportunity to be at the forefront of the transformation of inland ports across Europe.
Join us in making a significant contribution to a greener and more sustainable future.
