The Final Conference will be used to collect stakeholder input for the conclusions of the study and to collect recommendations regarding further development of these tools.
Context
In January 2023, the Commission launched the Green Inland Ports study. The study aims to support European inland ports to become zero-emission, sustainable hubs connecting Europe. The study assesses the environmental impact of ports on their surroundings, looks at the role of digitalisation in becoming more sustainable and identifies opportunities to adopt inland waterway transport for urban mobility and short-distance transport. The study develops practical tools and guidance to help ports reduce environmental impacts while improving operational efficiency.
The Green Inland Ports project has worked over the past three years to accelerate the transition of inland ports into climate-neutral, energy-efficient, and digitally connected hubs of logistics and innovation.
The final conference will highlight:
-
Key findings from the pilot projects
-
Technologies and digital tools for port decarbonisation
-
Policy recommendations for sustainable port governance
Attendees will gain exclusive insights into the project’s impact, including successful strategies for reducing emissions, integrating renewable energy, and fostering green economic growth along Europe’s inland waterways.
